You’ve surely heard: sometimes a picture says more than a thousand words. We think this is especially true when it comes to talking about a journey. In this issue, E&M invites you to participate in Sweden’s midsummer magic.

On the weekend right after the astronomically shortest night of the year, a mysterious haze falls over Sweden and a rather down-to-earth nation becomes entangled in flower wreaths. Following old pagan traditions, they sing and dance around the midsummer’s pole. In the early morning hours of the following day they get up to collect flowers and dew to capture their magic powers. According to tradition, that those girls who collect seven different flowers from seven different places and put them under their pillow, will dream at night of their future lover…

Whatever it is that enchants this Nordic country for one night and one day into a fairytale-like scene, it has to be magic. Our photo journalist Larissa was fortunate enough to be invited to a close friend’s sommarstuga (summer house) in the small town of Magnarp, on Sweden’s west coast. See for yourself…
